E-UGS (Expendable Unattended Ground Sensors) are low-cost “consumable” seismic sensors that are quickly emplaced in dead spots, on a perimeter, at frequent IED sites or on “goat trails” to provide early warning from miles away.
For site security applications: quickly turn any traditional fence or perimeter into an intelligent smart fence that communicates early warning without the need for power or networking.

ARA’s military grade E-UGS, which deliver intrusion alerts over long distances are now available for commercial and border security applications. Since 2010 ARA has delivered more than 40,000 E-UGS sensors, which are in use by U.S. forces around the world. It is the low-cost consumable unattended ground sensor on the battlefield today, and it has received outstanding user reviews.
Second Generation Technology
E-UGS are now a second generation technology that offers up to 6 months of uninterrupted operation, duration nearly double that of the originally fielded E-UGS model. Returning to an emplaced sensor exposes the war fighter to enemy snipers, IEDs, booby traps and ambushes. E-UGS eliminates those risks to the user and its low cost allows commanders to better decide on where, when and how many devices to leave behind. The sensor can be placed or moved quickly in order to provide constant activity monitoring of soft spots or known hot spots.
U.S. forces recently incorporated this technology into a “slew to cue” capability from overhead aerostats automatically slewing high power day/night cameras to the GPS location alert provided by the emplaced sensor. This technology can also “fly to cue” automatically launching a Nighthawk Micro UAV to the GPS location to capture full-motion video and otherwise classify and track the target.E-UGS can also be integrated with other ARA surveillance technology such as our RAPID ground radar system, Nighthawk Micro UAV or IBDSS, our intelligent site security software solution.
ARA is in full rate production and can accommodate rapid initial delivery of new orders within 90 days. The most recent version of E-UGS is available for export to most nations without ITAR restrictions.
The E-UGS system is new to the marketplace. Never before have non-military customers had the chance to capitalize on the ease of use these expendable seismic sensors can provide in security settings. There is now an affordable and fast to install option for monitoring of remote locations, secure perimeters and critical infrastructure without the need for external power or network connection. All with up to six months of runtime on each sensor.
